This November - Let's Talk Turkey... and other things!
Please see below on the precise details for November 2026's Thanksgiving cooking event.
All cooking will occur between Monday, 16 November and Thursday, 19 November, with volunteer opportunities at both St Augustine and St Barnabas kitchens, and all meals handed off to Awaken Church RVA on Thursday, 19 November, served piping hot as a tool of outreach and a road to a full belly!
SHOPPERS NEEDED!!
- Turkey or Cornbread Stuffing - a box or bag!
- Gravy Mix - turkey or poultry - we can use a packet or a bin, whatever you can swing!
- Frozen Turkeys... if you have the ability this month, we are asking for donations of frozen turkeys. Please look for sales!
- Turkeys can be delivered to the St Augustine Food Pantry at 4400 Beulah Rd... please call ahead so we can have the building open. The point of contact is Mo at (804) 735-9932.
- All other food items can be delivered to the outreach table at St Barnabas or the shopping cart at St Augustine (by the front office) during normal operating hours. Please call ahead if not coming during the weekend church services.
- We continue to ask for cold weather items such as hand warmers, gloves, hats, scarves, socks and blankets. These will be handed out with meals during the winter months.
- If you provide a receipt with your donation, please write your name and phone number on the back and we will contact you to provide a record of your donation. We appreciate your support!
Whether it is sliced turkey with stuffing smothered in gravy, or a vegan lentil mushroom loaf sliced and also smothered in gravy, we will be sending out hot and delicious meals with all the Thanksgiving fixings to bring cheer and a full tummy to our community! Sending out warm thoughts and hugs to all during this Thanksgiving Season!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
- This will be one of the largest events we have pulled off since... well, last Thanksgiving!! This is truly a case of "The more, the merrier!!"
- We have aprons, gloves, semi-sharp knives, slap-choppers for veggies, huge can openers to help with arm-day, bags to open, ovens to monitor, things to stir, pictures to take, music to play, and smiles/hugs/hand shakes/hope to share! Whatever way you can help, we are here to take it!
- This event is open to all and includes tasks for standing/non-standing, lifting/non-lifting, group and individual tasks. It takes a literal community to feed a community, and all are welcome in this place.
- Thank you so much for your consideration!
Last month, we were part of the way through loading the bags when I stopped our volunteers and declared, "We've officially hit 5,000 meals! Congratulations, and thank you!" Hope to see you there for the next milestone!
